Scott McDonald joins the team at Murphy Wealth

In our latest update, our new recruit — Scott McDonald — introduces himself, his story so far, and how he’s finding life at Murphy Wealth. Here’s what Scott had to say:

Discovering Murphy Wealth

My first encounter with Murphy Wealth was almost a year ago. I had come into the business as part of a two week-long work experience. It allowed me to gain great insights into the day-to-day processes of the company.

Throughout the two-week period I was allowed to:

  • Observe several client meetings
  • Work on a project which I presented back to the team at the end of my work experience.

I was grateful to come away with invaluable experience.

I returned to Murphy Wealth at the end of the summer for an additional week of work experience. This time the focus was on how the business as a whole is run.

I learned about the company’s ethos and “Human First” approach.

I was lucky enough to be given one-on-one time with both John and Adrian who were very helpful in answering my questions about the company.

I felt Murphy Wealth went above and beyond what was expected from a standard “work experience” and gifted me unique opportunities.

This educational boost, alongside the friendly atmosphere and admirable company ethos, left me coming away with a deep interest in working for Murphy Wealth in the future.

My story before Murphy Wealth

Following my work experience, I went back to studying for my 4th and final year studying Economics at the University of Glasgow.

My time at the university, although challenging, was very enjoyable and taught me many skills which I’ve brought into my working life.

I was heavily involved in the Tennis and Golf clubs at university, which was the highlight of my experience.

I also helped at events, such as organising socials and running the Golf range sessions — which helped me develop valuable social skills.

I used this experience to secure work at an events agency. I worked all over the UK for globally-renown companies, such as Moët Hennessy, Asahi, and Red Bull. It was a fantastic experience and further increased my ability to work in a people-focused environment.

Learning to love working in people-focused situations, led me back to Murphy Wealth and their “Human First” approach to wealth management.

Working at Murphy Wealth

A few months ago, as I pondered my post-university plans, I had the pleasure of bumping into Adrian on Great Western Road — during one of his many Iron Man training sessions!

I expressed my interest in working for the company and he suggested I contact the HQ to set up a meeting.

I was lucky enough to secure an opportunity and was very pleased to come to an agreement to start part-time, one day a week, while I finished my degree.

It has been great to get some early insights into life at Murphy Wealth, as well as have an opportunity to get to know the team.

I am very much looking forward to starting my career as a graduate on 5 June 2023. I hope to be an invaluable asset to the company by learning to provide the most complete wealth management service possible.
