Murphy Wealth news: As summer draws to a close we say “hello” to our new graduate recruit and “goodbye” to our intern

Autumn is a time of change and new beginnings. So, it’s fitting that this month we introduce you to our new Graduate Ruairidh while saying farewell to our summer intern Ellen.

Meet the newest member of the Murphy Wealth family, Ruairidh Dow

My story before Murphy Wealth

Before starting at Murphy Wealth, I studied Finance and Economics at the University of Strathclyde. I really enjoyed learning about current economic issues and firms’ operations within various markets, which helped me to understand more of the world around me day-to-day.

A highlight of my four years at university was being a member of the rugby club. In my final year, being a member of the committee gave me the opportunity to organise large events for the club as well as work with numerous charities, which developed my social and organisational skills.

Being part of the club showed me how valuable building relationships can be, as well as seeing the rewards that can come from being dedicated to a common goal.

Alongside my studies, I worked in various bar, administrative and retail roles that gave me a wide range of skills I’m now applying at Murphy Wealth. In particular, I’ve seen the effect that additional effort and care has on improving customer experience.

However, my most valued experience came from a short internship where I witnessed how rewarding a career in this industry can be.

Discovering Murphy Wealth

After my studies, I had a lot of opportunities to think about as I researched how to best use my degree.

I was initially attracted to Murphy Wealth due to their “Human First” philosophy, which really set them apart from other firms I was applying to. I’ve always thrived in roles that involve dealing with people.

I reached out to Murphy Wealth and was then invited to an initial chat with Neil (Director of Financial Planning) and Sarah (Financial Planner) to discuss who Murphy Wealth were as people and the services that they provide.

After my first meeting it was very clear that this was the role that I was searching for – it seemed like a great place to continue learning, progress my career, and help people. Meeting with John (Chairman) and Adrian (CEO) reinforced this sense, as I learned more about their investment strategy and why Murphy Wealth have adopted the “Human First” approach.

Working at Murphy Wealth

Since starting my position, I have already learned a lot about their investment philosophy and how the firm caters investments to the clients’ beliefs and goals. I really look forward to gaining more skills and knowledge to help the team to provide a higher quality client experience.

I hope in future to start to build my own relationships with existing and new clients and use my previous knowledge to assist the firm in meeting their goals.

There is a lot of room for creativity within my role and all new suggestions are considered by all members of the team, which I have found very rewarding.

I want to take on more responsibilities every day and hope to maintain and strive to improve the high standards at Murphy Wealth.

We say a fond farewell to Ellen, our summer intern

My three-month internship at Murphy Wealth is now coming to an end and although I am excited to travel and live in Australia for the next few months, I am going to really miss being part of the team.

I have really enjoyed the past three months and have learnt a lot. The team has been great to work with and all the clients I have met during my time here have been lovely!

I have found my internship both interesting and challenging, gaining experience in many different aspects of the business. I started with limited knowledge of financial services, but I am now confident that I would like to work in this industry in the future.

Thank you to everyone who made this such a great experience.
