Meet senior paraplanner Jay Tallis in your latest Murphy Wealth team update

In this month’s team update, we welcome our new senior paraplanner, Jay Tallis.

Jay has a degree in history and gained most of his financial experience during the global banking crisis. He joined us back in January.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about Jay and his journey to Murphy Wealth.

Before Murphy Wealth – World travel plans and a global crisis

After graduating with an honours degree in history I started work as a pensions administrator, intending to save up to travel the world. I never did get to travel, instead choosing to move to Liverpool where I joined a small financial planning firm just a few months before the onset of the global financial crisis.

This proved an invaluable learning experience, both personally and professionally. With my research skills, I was put to task translating the news headlines into something that resembled plain English, while observing how a firm that puts its clients first operates under significant pressure.

Ten years later I left for a year in Spain, before returning to work for another family firm based on the Wirral. The global pandemic presented unique challenges, but striving to deliver an excellent level of service despite those challenges was immensely rewarding.

Discovering Murphy Wealth and its “human first” approach

Having moved to Glasgow in 2023 I interviewed at various companies, large and small. However, I was immediately drawn to the “human first” approach at Murphy Wealth, which to me is the only way to operate in an industry that can sometimes seem cold and detached.

I got a real sense of the culture that runs through the firm, and that understanding has only grown in the weeks and months since.

Working at Murphy Wealth – A culture of shared knowledge and experience

I have greatly enjoyed my experience at Murphy Wealth to date. I’ve learned a lot in a short time, but I’ve also been able to share some of my experience with the team and contribute to some positive changes going forward.

There is a real commitment to learning and development, both professionally, and in the soft skills that make Murphy Wealth stand out from the crowd.

While as a historian I will always have an interest in the past, I am looking forward to the next ten years!
